Fashion at Fillmore Jazz Festival

San Francisco has its fair share of music festivals–obviously there’s Outside Lands, Treasure Island Music Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Noise Pop Festival.

The Fillmore Jazz Festival, which was held this past weekend, always has a great community vibe. In my household, jazz was the norm but you don’t even have to be a big jazz fan to enjoy the festival, per se. It’s the perfect time to sit down with your friends in front of a stage, grab food from one of the stands and wander the vendors.

The Boom Boom Room was a refreshingly retro-swirl of polka dot dresses, red lips and fancy hairdos. Walking around we caught up with a few folks working at the booths and who had stopped to listen to music.

We found Alix at the T-We Tea stand, a San Francisco artisan tea company, where she is currently interning. Alix just moved to SF from Paris in January and was dressed head-to-toe in all things France. She has the San Francisco-layering down to a tee with a neutral cross-body bag and summer booties to even out the patterned dress.

Cora, below, stood out with her Zara pants which she said were “simply comfortable.” She also said she chose them because the color pops easily, but she didn’t over do it by balancing them with a basic top and jean jacket. This kept the pants as the main focus and the additional details, sunnies and white kicks, were icing on the cake. You can find Cora’s pants here online at Zara for under $40.

Both Alix and Cora gave effortless examples of how to dress for a San Francisco summer where layers are key. I consider jean jackets, as well as chambray, as a sort of neutral and the perfect layering piece. And if you don’t want to wear sandals, Alix’s suede booties are a nice alternative, like these “Ecote Growler” boots from Urban Outfitters.

More to come on festival style and how to dress for a San Francisco summer!
