I could write something new about Ellie Goulding every time she uploads to her Instagram account. The pint-sized Brit released the video last week for her newest single, “Burn” which will be included on the re-release of her sophomore album, Halcyon Days.
The video has a dreamy, summertime glow as Ellie starts out on an airport runway in one of her staple outfits: black shorts, mesh top, cutout bralette and black creepers. And that killer gold chain necklace–I’ve already scoped one out from Bauble Bar that’s doable.
She wore a similar ensemble to her show in Oakland at the Fox Theater this past October. Ellie always experiments with layering sheer and solids along with texture. Nasty Gal has a super inexpensive cutout bralette similar to Ellie’s or you can mix sheer with solid panels in a bodysuit like this one from ASOS.
As the sun sets in the video, and the dance party erupts, Ellie is in an open field with floating lights–20,000 to be exact–and glows in white high-waisted shorts, white bustier and a bomber jacket. She whips up the perfect combination of street style and summer sweetness, but isn’t afraid to incorporate her usual sporty details. She does regularly lead Nike runs and participated in the women’s half marathon.
A bomber jacket, like this one with metallic details, can be thrown on top of anything like a leather jacket would, and a white bustier works paired with a high-waisted leather skirt for nighttime. My favorite pleated leather skirt is on sale at Urban Outfitters currently.
Ellie is a platinum-haired fairy and “Burn” is the perfect summer anthem. Her style is easy to replicate by messing around with solids, sheer panels and hemlines. Don’t be afraid to add sporty details, like pleats, with a usual feminine piece. Ellie does it on the regular and has made it her own.
