ALBUM REVIEW: Hesitation Marks by Nine Inch Nails

Once again Nine Inch Nails has succeeded in making another haunting and eerily hypnotizing album! Founding and only official band member Trent Reznor started the band back in 1988. Hesitation Marks is the band’s ninth and most recent album that released just yesterday! The album is a continuation of Nine Inch Nails’ usual industrial rock feel with added awesome external sound effects such as the echoing  monsterous breathing sound playing in the background of the track “While I’m Still here” (Breyer P-Orridge ‘Howler’ Remix). It is a song that sounds like it could be about death and/or someone losing their mind with the hint of background commentary of a random voice before the end of the song, as well as lyrics like “…A little more every day, falls apart and slips away, well I don’t mind I’m okay, wish it didn’t have to end this way…” The album as a whole is not just about death or losing one’s mentality to an abyss of psychosis, the album also includes love and a sense of being lost in the world. With lyrics like “You were never meant to see, all those things inside of me, now that you’ve gone away, I’m just trying to find my way,” in the song “Find My Way.” A big difference with this album compared to past ones of Nine Inch Nails, is the pace of the songs on the album. In earlier works such as the song “The Hand That Feeds,” were composed of faster rhythm and beats, where as the tracklist for Hesitation Marks is much more slow in pace and instrumental style; such as more twisted and elaborated synthesizer and musical beats heard especially in the song “All time Low.” Overall the most important aspect of the album is, how it reflects that an industrial band like Nine Inch Nails has made a name for themselves throughout all these years without compromising their musical style. Hesitation Marks is now available for streaming and purchase online and in stores today!
