INTERVIEW: New Beat Fund

G-Punkers New Beat Fund are one of the bands to watch this year. With a whirlwind summer filled with spot on Warped Tour and the debut of their EP Coinz, we managed to catch up with the band at Riot Fest in Denver to talk to the guys about Macgyver skills, crazy party experiences and what’s next for New Beat Fund.

It says on your Facebook page the band was founded when you guys hurled a piggy bank at the facade of corporate building – Is that true?

FACT. It’s totally true. But we didn’t throw it, we launched with a water balloon launcher – a hand-made one at that. We launched it over a railroad track at Sound City.

Why did you guys decide to do that?

Boredom. No reason really. Sometimes when you are in the studio you need to let loose. We were just in the studio and we were like “Fuck it, lets launch this thing.” So we made a launcher out of a Tupperware and two exercise bands. Some Macgyver shit you know?

Is throwing a piggy bank at a corporate building as fun as I imagine it would be?

I’m not gonna lie, it was fuckin’ awesome.

You guys played warped tour 2013 and you seem like you know how to party – craziest party experience while on the road (that you can remember)?

There was a girl who came to our merch booth that took off her top and put our logo stickers on her boobs. Also there were two strippers who happened upon our bus and they had two deep-dish, Chicago-style pizzas – we didn’t even know them – and one of them gave our bus driver the time of his life…meaning he got a lap dance. Now he is a hero amongst all the bus drivers.

So what is next for New Beat Fund? Music videos? Full length album?

We just released the Coinz EP so we are touring with that now. In October we are going out with 3OH!3 for like a month and a half. So mostly just touring but we’ll have some new videos coming out soon as well. MTV just put our video for “Scare Me” up so thats really cool. We’ve also been writing and recording some new music that may be released in the summer.

Ok, shameless plugs – go!

Check us out on AltNation and MTVU because we just got added to both of those.Yea, lets get shameless! “Scare Me” music video is on youtube. Coinz EP can be downloaded for free on our website www.newbeatfund.com. Come see us with 3OH!3 in the fall. Also watch the show Shameless on showtime.
