ON RADAR: SKATERS

SKATERSOriginally from New York City is the indie rock band known as SKATERS. Singer/songwriter Michael Ian Cummings met guitarist Josh Hubbard in Los Angeles back in 2011. Within a few months Hubbard met up with Cummings in New York, as well as bassist Dan Burke and drummer Noah Rubin. The band played a total of three shows before officially signing with Warner Bros. Records. Originally they wanted to focus on their own magazine called YONKS, a publication that depicts their music as well as other artists and photographers. In 2012 they released their debut EP Schemers, which received over 10,000 downloads on their website, and recently they released their debut full-length album MANHATTAN this past month! The album features their hit single “Deadbolt,” a heavy beach rock tune with loud guitar, drums, and vocals. It is a song about rebellion and running away from the authorities, yet also pleading for a second chance at freedom. Fans of Wavves and Best Coast should check out SKATERS.
