PHOTOS: Gerard Way, The Eeries- Fall 2014 Tour Opening Night In San Francisco, CA

IMG_5368bGerard Way kicked off his North American fall tour in San Francisco, CA Sunday night and it was evident that his fans are just as loyal to him as they were when he was with My Chemical Romance. The crowd was predominantly a mix of teens and twentysomethings, who knew most of the songs throughout the set. Opening the night was Southern California band, The Eeries, who have been garnering attention with their lively alternative rock sound inspired by The Pixies, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, most notably heard on their breakthrough track, “Cool Kid”. Although frontman, Isaiah Silva, was suffering from pneumonia, the band was energetic and tight throughout its set. Standouts “Shine On” and “Loser” show the upstart band has lots of potential in the future and there’s much to look forward to when their full-length debut album is released early 2015.

IMG_5612bThe main set by Gerard Way did not disappoint the crowds as he was greeted by overwhelming applause and screams right from the start of the first song, “The Bureau” off of his debut solo album, “Hesitant Alien”. It was clear that the audience approved of the new direction Way has taken with his music, which is less bombastic and more influenced by Britpop. The rock show was in full force as Way and his band had the crowd pumped through “Juarez,” “Get The Gang Together,” and “Maya The Psychic.” Overall, it was an energetic performance that showcased a polished and inspired Gerard Way who showed that he’s quite a versatile songwriter and showman.
