Penguin Prison (aka Christopher Glover) is back with a new album, Lost In New York, and it’s been described as a “vintage glam of NYC’s storied disco heyday, all the way through to the bohemian rhapsody of modern Brooklyn.” Glover started performing at a young age while attending the Professional Performing Arts School singing alongside fellow choir member Alicia Keys. Glover explored various genres throughout college, playing in punk bands in his hometown of New York City but it was when he took a chance to send a demo to rapper Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest did he gain the attention of Interscope Records. Glover took on the pseudonym of Penguin Prison in 2009 as he started remixing songs for the likes of Lana Del Rey, Kylie Minogue, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, and Miike Snow, to name a few.
Penguin Prison is currently on tour featuring Glover and a full live band in tow. B-Sides On-Air met with Glover during the band’s San Francisco tour stop at The Independent. Glover spoke with B-Sides host, Pete Mar, to talk about the new album, working as Macaulay Culkin’s double and more. Check out the interview:
