7 Emerging Hip-Hop Artists You Must Hear

It’s safe to say that hip-hop has been very good to us lately and the talent pool is constantly rising.  2015 has been huge with new albums from legendary rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, as well as soon to be legends like Drake and Kendrick Lamar, the industry has been blessed with tons of great material.  With all of this great content in rap, it’s easy to get lost in a trend and not be able to branch out and find new talented artists.  That is why we have compiled a list of emerging hip-hop artists you have to hear before 2015 is over! Theses artist are all extremely talented and versatile, all adding a different spice or flavor to the giant melting pot of sounds that is today’s hip-hop.

1. Mick Jenkins: Coming from the extremely talented city of Chicago, Jenkins solidified himself as a rising star with last year’s The Waters mixtape which received praise from many around the industry. Jenkins walks the line between a conscious rapper and your regular rapper by combining important political statements into some heavy but easily digestible production. He has a very polished flow and strong lyrical ability making his next project, The Waves EP, one of the most anticipated projects of the year.

2. Futuristic: Based out of Arizona, Futuristic is a really talented young artist that has an amazing flow to match not only some very heavy content but also funny parody songs as well. Usually hooking up with his friend and video director Jakob Owens of the Buff Nerds, the two work well together in creating some great hip-hop music videos. His star is steadily rising and with huge features from people like Dizzy Wright and a spot on Sway in the Morning, Futuristic is a strong contender to blow up in the industry.

3.Alex Wiley: As another young artist from Chicago Alex Wiley has a lot of really great competition from his hometown; however, he has made his own lane in the crowded scene as his own artist. Wiley is a really good artist who loves playing with experimental productions and flows, always pushing the limits of creativity with his music. His Village party mixtape was a fantastic project as a whole, and a lot of people are very excited for what Wiley will do in the future.

4.Earl Sweatshirt the LA-based rapper originally found fame with the rambunctious and rebellious Odd Future collective at the early age of 16. Since then his life has changed quite a bit as he was sent to Samoa until he was 18 by his mother and somewhat drifted apart from his odd future friends. The move has changed his musical content drastically, however, his skill is definitely still there. As with anyone who matures, he no longer raps about such offensive content and instead seeks to use his fame to create some really great songs and projects as a whole.

5.COZZ: The LA based rapper recently signed to J. Coles Dreamville Records and Released his debut project Cozz & Effect. Cozz has an aggressive flow and witty wordplay. His punch lines are powerful and his only project to date was a very solid effort. Cozz looks to refine his song writing even more and continue evolving as an artist. With people like J.Cole and Bas surrounding him at his label, Cozz’s next project looks to be even better and the sky is the limit.

6.Isaiah Rashad: The young artist from Chattanooga, Tennessee recently got signed to Top Dawg ENT. one of the most reputable labels in the rap industry. After getting that seal of approval, he dropped his debut project on the label, Cilvia Demo, was released on January 28th, 2014. Rashad Speaks on real life topics and experiences with a smooth and fluid flow and he does a wonderful job of doing so.

7. Honey The Hippie: A young artist from Houston, Texas is probably the smallest name on this list; however, that definitely does not diminish the quality of her music. Honey has a spitfire flow and her content is usually about similar concepts as her name is. Psychedelics often come up and being unsigned she has yet to release a major label debut, but has in fact released a few different projects herself. She is an extremely talented female emcee who will be giving Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea a serious run for their money soon.
