VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Låpsley Talks Coachella, Long Way Home

lapsleySinger, songwriter and producer Holly ‘Låpsley’ Fletcher had aspirations in music while growing up but remained pragmatic throughout her schooling. While uploading various covers ranging from Lana Del Rey, Mumford & Sons to David Guetta and Spice Girls, Fletcher started developing her sound and released her first EP in 2014 on Soundcloud while still in school. It didn’t take long for a strong contingent of listeners to start building from songs such as “Station” and “Painter (Valentine).” Of the increasing attention, Låpsley stated- “And then blogs started picking it up. I didn’t even know what a music blog was. I printed out every single one and showed my mum.” Approaches from record companies swiftly followed. She played her first show a couple of months later in Liverpool. Her next performance was at Glastonbury. The following week she moved to London, and placed her degree plans on hold. Long Way Home, the debut album from Låpsley, was released in March 2016 and encapsulates a period of emotions in which she reveled in her newfound music career as it took her from Liverpool to London to Los Angeles and back again. “It’s an autobiography of my emotions and events over the past year,” she says. “Everything that’s happened, I’ve channelled in some way into a song.”

In between the two Coachella weekends, Låpsley performed a show at The Independent in San Francisco, where B-Sides host, Pete Mar, spoke with the British musician about performing at the iconic festival, spoke about her debut album and more. Check out the interview:
