Dinosaur Jr. – Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not

When people think of the pioneers of alternative and indie rock they tend to focus their energy on Sonic Youth or Radiohead. While debatably they are considered great bands it leaves much to be desired because of the over hype and excessive play. The are many times that you hear a song from a band that’s overplayed, and you become extremely uninterested and possibly bored. If you find yourself in that position, you may need a different band to keep it fresh.

Dinosaur Jr. arrived on the scene around the same time as Sonic Youth. However, they are rarely backlogged when bringing up that era of music. Dinosaur Jr. is an underappreciated band, and it’s about time that they are in the spotlight once again. Their album Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not was their first reunion release since 2012. It’s been four years of waiting for the fans and music community.

In particular, the vinyl community was beyond ecstatic for Dinosaur Jr.’s this release of Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Throughout the release, night fans posted and commented about their thrill and joy of the record. It’s understandable as the album is brilliant. The entire album runs smoothly from A-Side to B-Side, and you end up repeating it over a few times. It’s got that awesome sound that is vintage vibes yet modern attitude.

One song in particular worth checking out is “Lost All Day.” It could be considered a sad song, but it’s still beautiful and impactful. If you played it to an untrained ear, it could almost be mistaken for a Wilco jam. Of course, this is not Wilco, but it has that same high caliber of precise and delicate energy.

Most record stores are sold out of the albums vinyl format, however, if you are lucky, you might be able to snag one before they are all gone. It’s running for about $20 for the LP. Dinosaur Jr.’s Give A Glimpse of What Yer Not is an album worth all the hype.
