The Naked and Famous nearly broke up after the tour cycle of their last album, In Rolling Waves in 2014. Co-founders of the band, Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers had ended their eight-year relationship and the stress on the business of being a band was in peril. Xayalith and Powers were able to work through the process and ultimately channeled their energies into new material. Their latest album, Simple Forms was released on Oct. 14, 2016, which Xayalith stated in a press release, “There’s pain and passion behind this art.” Powers described the production for the material as “Pop techniques are all about maximum impact. And it’s not like this is an album of bangers but it’s the most immediate thing we’ve ever done.” Now currently on tour, The Naked and Famous are back and appear even stronger and cohesive than ever.
