Growing up in New Jersey and attending college at NYU, Phoebe Ryan couldn’t decide whether she wanted to pursue a life as an artist or a songwriter. She began writing songs for others, including hit tracks by Britney Spears (“Glory”), Bea Miller, and Melanie Martinez. But soon she reckoned that she was ready to unleash her own voice. “I just really felt like I had the confidence to start telling my own story,” she says. “I just was like, ‘O.K., I’m super-ready for this. I feel very confident about it. Let’s do it.’ Being able to push that voice out of you and speak up, it’s hard. I’m learning every day.” In 2015 she unleashed her debut EP Mine, featuring an infectious remix of R. Kelly’s “Ignition” and Miguel’s “Do You”. O ver the course of 2017, Ryan has steadily released a stream of new tunes that will (hopefully!) feature on her upcoming debut full-length LP.
