VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Washed Out Talks ‘Mister Mellow’, Hip-Hop Influence

Solo act Washed Out is one of the original artists whose music was discovered on his Myspace page! The stage name of Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr., Washed Out has been pushing out chillwave EPs since 2009, when he was first discovered on the now-diminishing social network. Greene began producing music in his parents’ home after he couldn’t find a job as a librarian, his original plan after graduating college. Soon, his ambient, drowsy dance pop caught the ear of Sub Pop Records, who released Washed Out’s debut album Within and Without in 2011. Its follow-up, Paracosm further raised his profile, and Washed Out’s most recent album, 2017’s Mister Mellow has been released to glowing reviews.

Washed Out recently caught up with B-Sides during the band’s tour stop in Oakland, CA to talk about Mister Mellow, transitioning to Stones Throw, a record label that has many hip-hop artists and more:
