“Faded Heart” is the latest single by BØRNS, and a glimpse into the sound from his forthcoming sophomore album due in January 2018. The follow-up to his successful debut, Dopamine, is highly anticipated and is inspired by the singer/songwriter’s experience with success, touring and acclaim. BØRNS recently told Billboard magazine, “there are sounds from music that I don’t really think are very prevalent in the way people write music right now,” he says. “There are some [instruments] that have fallen into this mysterious space that I wanted to bring them back onto my record.”

Almost immediately upon its release in 2014, the track “Electric Love” was a great success and became the signature song by BØRNS, who was born Garret Borns in rural Michigan. Growing up he was a professional magician, performing under the stage name of “Garrett the Great,” and moved from Michigan to New York City, where he began to write music under his given name. In 2013, Borns moved to Los Angeles, where he started to style his name as BØRNS and moved into a secluded treehouse to focus on writing new music for his debut EP, Candy, released in 2014. BØRNS toured with Charli XCX and Bleachers that summer, including shows at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, before retiring back to LA to write his first studio album. Dopamine, that debut LP, was released in October 2015.

With BØRNS’ followup record scheduled to be released in a matter of months, B-Sides recently caught up with him to discuss life on the road and the influences for his new album:
