It is safe to say Suwannee Hulaween is Florida’s top music and art festival. From the mesmerizing art installations to the mind-blowing performances, this festival is definitely one to add to the bucket-list. Suwannee Hulaween 2018 sold out this year due to the amount of hard-work, passion, and love that has been consecutively put forth into this festival that keeps fans returning year after year. 2018 celebrated six years of Hulaween and plans to return next year for their seventh-year celebration area already being carried out.
Suwannee Hulaween is not just an electornic music festival. It is a world of imagination, creativity, pleasure, beauty, magic, and much more. It is an unreal venue that can only be lived to be understood. The vibes of the festival are out of this world; everyone comes together from all different parts of the country to unite for a weekend of art, music, dance, and Halloween. The Halloween themed atmosphere creates those spooky vibes via Halloween decorated art installations all throughout the park following this year’s theme of Creatures of the Galaxy.
The most magical area of the festival is Spirit Lake. Spirit Lake is home to the most dazzling displays of light that illuminate over the lake. Laser lovers can sit and admire the lakeside lightshow for hours while listening to the music coming from the Spirit Lake stage. While exploring Spirit Lake, festival goers can find hidden treasures such as the heated Horseshoe, The “Complimentary” Bar, and the Mural Maze Collective. Getting lost in the psychedelic murals of the maze is a must while in Spirit Lake. Of the most interactive art installation of the entire festival is Frick Frack Black Jack Casino. The Casino in the middle of the woods is an experience of its own; gamblers bet their festival possessions in hopes of winning something of equal value. Imagine all of the trinkets and treasures that are collected from all over the country to be bartered with at the Casino of Spirit Lake.
The musical production at Suwannee Hulaween is top-notch. The festival brings top of the line sound systems and equipment to produce phenomenal performances and sets. The lineup was extremely diverse ranging from Stephen Marley to Tipper to The String Cheese Incident to Odesza to Emancipator Ensemble and many more. The weirdest yet funkiest sets of the weekend were held at The Silent Disco, which was at the Campground Stage. The Silent Disco allows attendees to enter into a weird and mysterious world of music. With two channels of live music, listeners can flip back and forth between stations to switch up the vibe. One minute it’s dark and deep with psychedelic bass such as Mystic Grizzly, while the next minute it’s down and dirty with dubstep classics from SkyHye.
The musical performances over the weekend were electrifying. Rezz hypnotized the crowd with her mind-controlling music. The String Cheese Incident produced greatness as usual, and that Gimme Shelter remake left the crowd in awe. Odesza brought those happy-feel good vibes for everyone to dance together under the moonlight. Stephen Marley played the reggae tunes for all the Marley lovers. Crooked Colours delivered the best daytime vibes. Manic Focus brought the funk. Tipper created a virtual reality of unique sound that left everyone wanting more. Jamiroquai played classics that had the crowd wild. Ott reunited psychedelic music lovers. The Polish Ambassador & The Diplomatic Scandal put on a jazzy-funk dance party. Opiuo brought that intergalactic weirdness. And Gramatik closed out the festival with a spectacular set that left everyone smiling and fulfilled.
