VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Dream Wife Adjust to Life Without Touring, Talk Sexual Empowerment of Womxn, Thoughts on WAP

Dream Wife released their sophomore album ‘So When You Gonna…’ last week via Lucky Number in July and garnered much praise from critics and fans alike. The trio, comprised of Rakel Mjöll, Bella Podpadec and Alice Go, has long been a proponent for gender equality in supporting the LGBTQ+ and non-binary community and purposefully worked with a non-male engineering team led by Bjork-producer Marta Salogni on the album. “It was amazing to work with this community of womxn on this album who are supporting each other in an industry that is so male-dominated. It was a way of us practicing what we preach. It felt like an honour to be able to deliver this baby with these three amazing midwives,” says Go. Podpadec added, “What would you call the opposite of gate-keeping? Facilitator? Enabler? It’s all about opening the gates.” With standout tracks ranging from “Sports!”, “Hasta La Vista” and “After The Rain”, the band also included a song that had been in the works for a number of years in “Homesick”, an anthem for sexual empowerment of womxn, a topic that’s been recently discussed in pop culture since the release of “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Podpadec offered her opinion in support of such songs stating, “womxn just talking about how they want to use their bodies and what they want to do with their bodies and that’s just really great.”

B-Sides host Pete Mar spoke with Rakel Mjöll and Bella Podpadec of Dream Wife about their experiences without touring with the band, what the future plans may include and more. Check out the interview:
