SOFIA ISELLA just dropped her debut EP, ‘I Can Be Your Mother’ this past Friday September 6th to much anticipation. The nineteen year-old singer/songwriter kicked off her West Coast tour the same week and performed in front of an intimate and enthusasitc crowd at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco, CA Sunday September 8th.
The set was engaging and theatrical right from the start as she came out on stage in her own t-shirt performing “Hot Gum” and eventually took it off and threw it into the crowd to cheers. With a guitar strapped on, her performance of “Cacao and Cocaine” had fans recording on their phones while reciting the lyrics loudly. Sitting at the piano to perform the title track of her EP, all eyes were fixated on Sofia amidst the dim lighting and her soft vocals, which were filled with emotion. Sofia stepped into the crowd to perform “All of Human Knowledge Made Us Dumb” as phone lights shone on her, creating an emotional and deep connection with the audience, easily making it a highlight of the night. A multi-instrumentalist, Sofia alternated between guitar, electric piano and the violin, an instrument she’s been playing since the age of 3. Midway through the set, Sofia performed an interlude on violin which gave many the chills at her amazing skills. The show was an outstanding showcase for a blooming artist on the rise, who’s more than worthy of opening for the mighty Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour recently in England. After this California run, Sofia will head off to the UK to open for Melanie Martinez
