VIDEO: INTERVIEW – BENEE Talks Los Angeles Move Shaping New Album ‘Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles’, Reflects on Growth After ‘Supalonely’ Viral Fame

The sophomore album from Benee, ‘Ur an Angel I’m Just Particles’ was released in November to much anticipation. The album’s title is derived from a demo lyric and inspired by feeling both ethereal and grounded, just as inspired by space, anonymity, and existential wonder. Highlights from the album include “Cinnamon,” “Sad Boiii,” and “Princess”, the latter a collaboration with Pinkpantheress. While there are songs that are inspired by relationships, others are more “big picture” as she stated, “the world right now is at a cultural turning point; it feels as though we are on a precipice. All we have understood and accepted about humanity and our world order seem to be on the verge of dissolution. In a post-COVID reality, the rapid rise of AI, environmental disasters and the global rise in authoritarianism has left many of us in shock. The ground moves beneath our feet, and we can feel emotionally paralyzed. ‘Ur an Angel I’m Just Particles’ is a deep dive into existential dread, where love, identity and meaning slip through your fingers like sand.” Written and recorded over the span of the past three years, the songs on the album follow her journey of making sense of the world through music, as she absorbs the chaos and confusion of everyday life against a myriad of catchy sonics.

Benee spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar, about how her move to Los Angeles three years ago profoundly influenced the album, maturing since her early viral success at 20, her upcoming tour and more.
