VIDEO INTERVIEW: Galimatias Led By The Culture Of Social Media Distractions For Latest Album ’20 Second Century’

The latest album from Danish producer Galimatias, ’20 Second Century’, arrived in November 2025 to much anticipation. The 13-track project, released independently, delves into the chaos of digital distraction and shortened attention spans in today’s world. Building on his ethereal electronic foundations, Galimatias incorporates funk-driven grooves, thoughtful lyrics, and creative sampling throughout. Tracks like the opening “Firestorm” and “Eyes on You” have already been fan-favorites, the latter features Boss and has been gaining traction via its bell sample spotlighted in an Apple iPhone presentation. With these tracks and others, much of the album is centered around commentary on screen addiction and fading human connections. Inspired by various observations and other media, Galimatias noted that Neil Postman’s book, ‘Amusing Ourselves to Death’ as a key piece of material that shaped his view of social media’s impact, fueling themes of loneliness, identity loss, and diverted attention—drawing parallels to Jonathan Haidt’s work on device effects on youth. Galimatias shared, “if you read that book and just replace TV with social media, it feels like almost even more apt.” On the album title, he explained: “The name comes from that of like everything being like shorter and shorter and then it’s kind of like an antithesis to that… The fact that it’s sort of made to be this longer piece.”

Galimatias spoke with B-Sides about the inspirations behind ’20 Second Century’, gave a tour of his home studio where he created the music, detailed his process in creating the album and more.
