Jensen McRae released her sophomore album, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me! in April of earlier this year. The album delves into the emotional complexities of intimacy, heartbreak, and self-reclamation, showcasing McRae’s airy yet powerful voice and raw lyricism. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 80s movie, ‘Back to the Future’, the title reflects her resilience, capturing both vulnerability and strength as she navigates personal growth. McRae stated, “More than anything, I am grateful to have made this album as a record of my transition into real womanhood. It’s me processing girlhood, with all its attendant naïveté and guilelessness and resistance to change, and emerging as an adult who is capable of forgiveness and transformation and measured optimism.”
The album features the viral track, “Massachusetts” that takes on the the emotional aftermath of a breakup, capturing the tension between longing and letting go. Lyrically, McRae reflects on a love that was both formative and painful, set against the backdrop of Massachusetts, which serves as a symbolic anchor for the memories and emotions tied to the relationship. The LP’s other standout track, “Savannah” is an anthem of liberation and self-discovery that finds McRae reflecting on leaving a toxic relationship, only to be confronted by her past at every turn. The Southern California native has had steady trajectory of growth in her career, marked by viral moments that have elevated her profile with singles like “White Boy” (2019) and “Wolves” (2020).
