VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Mimi Webb Says Personal Tumult Led To New Album ‘Confessions’, Talks Meghan Trainor

Mimi Webb’s sophomore album ‘Confessions‘ was just released on September 12th and highlights a new step forward in both sound and songwriting. “I dug deep and figured out what I want to say not just as an artist, but as a person,” Webb stated. “I decided to be brutally honest. It’s easy to be like, ‘Everything is wonderful’—even when there’s so much happening behind the curtain. I wanted to open up and scream, ‘This is who I am!’.”

Sonically, the album is characterized by a mix of R&B and pop elements that are catchy and dance-friendly, as heard in previously released singles, “Love Language” and “Mind Reader,” the latter a duet with label-mate Meghan Trainor. Of the experience, Webb shared, “Meghan is an artist I’ve admired for such a long time, and having her be my first-ever collaboration on a single feels like a dream come true. The song came together in such a fun, natural way. She’s an amazing songwriter, and we actually wrote ‘Mind Reader’ during the first session we ever did together. When I got home and listened back, I immediately felt like the track needed her voice on it, so I called her straight away and asked if she’d jump on it as a feature. She said yes immediately!” Meghan Trainor stated, “Working with Mimi was an absolute dream!! My husband and I have been big fans of her for years so we were star struck when she came to the house to write this song. We had the best time writing ‘Mind Reader,’ so I was beyond excited when she asked me to feature on it.” Webb has had a steady rise in her musical career, having made an impression with her 2021 debut EP, ‘Seven Shades of Heartbreak’ been nominated for a BRIT Award, performed at US festivals such as
Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Austin City Limits, and Outside Lands, while also having toured with the likes of the Jonas Brothers, Tate McRae, and Benson Boone.

Mimi Webb spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the most impactful life events that she experienced for the first time affected her while inspiring her to create ‘Confessions‘, maturing as an adult and more.
