Beach Slang has garnered much acclaim and attention without the over-marketing or hype associated with a newer band. Led by frontman and writer James Alex, who was in Pennsylvania pop-punk act Weston, the band is rounded out by other experienced members in drummer JP Flexner and bassist Ed McNulty . Their debut album, The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us, was overwhelming well received with positive critical reviews and eagerly anticipated upon its release in 2015. “When this whole thing started it was like, ‘Alright, i’m going to get to hear my sappy little songs played loud and interact with other human beings again,’ the admittedly shy Alex says looking back on Beach Slang’s existence. “Then one day this really sweet explosion happened and Beach Slang became a thing that mattered to people.”
B-Sides met up with James Alex of Beach Slang during their recent San Francisco tour stop to talk about the band’s success and their recent on-stage flare up in Salt Lake City where it was rumored the band was going to break up. Alex also performed “Ride The Wild Haze” acoustic for us!
