PHOTO REVIEW: G-Eazy Returns To New Parish In Oakland, CA

Even though G-Eazy has gained international recognition over the past number of years, he’s always brought a special vibe to his native Bay Area shows, whether it be unique setlists or local Bay Area rappers to join him on-stage. The New Parish is a small venue in Oakland, CA known for supporting local acts and the starting venue for G-Eazy when he was a young performer. The venue had been commemorating their 10th anniversary this month with special shows capped off with an intimate show by G-Eazy. The show proceeds were already earmarked for the Nova Phoenix’s Leukemia Recovery Fund and the Endless Summer Fund. The former is an organization close to the rapper, as his three-year old niece is currently battling with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The Endless Summer Fund was established in 2018 to help the Larkin Street Youth Services, which helps underserved youth and strengthen the Bay Area community, focusing on LGBTQ youth, homelessness, education, and mental illness. With these two organizations benefitting from the show, needless to say, fans were treated to a unique performance that included openers local Bay Area performers, ALLBLACK, Kossisko, and DJ Daghe.

When G-Eazy took the stage, the tiny venue exploded in rapturous applause and the sing-a-longs started with lead songs, “Far Alone” and “Pray For Me”, as he was draped in an overcoat that was taken off after the second song. The set showcased numerous throwbacks from his early days including, “Lady Killers”, “Stay High”, “I Mean It”, “Waspy”, “Loaded” and “Tumblr Girls”. With his mother in the audience, G-Eazy shared numerous anecdotes of selling mixtapes outside the exact same venue while expressing gratitude for the loyalty of his fans. The audience was treated to a first time performance of “Beat Up” with opening act ALLBLACK returning to the stage to join him. Of course, the rapper’s more current material was featured that put into perspective the depth of material that G-Eazy has accumulated over the years. Popular songs like “Him & I”, “1942”, “Girls Have Fun”, “Got Damn” and others.

Overall, the set was structured for both the longtime and more recent fans, although it was difficult to tell the difference based on the audience reception, as it seemed like the audience was literally singing along to every song. It’s quite obvious that when G-Eazy performs in the Bay Area, he is both cognizant and grateful for the fanbase that has supported him throughout his career.
