Rising hip-hop and R&B artist Oke Junior gave an impressive performance at the Bottlerock Napa Valley Music Festival over Memorial Day weekend and had people buzzing about his set. The set was especially meaningful since Napa was where Oke Junior (born Matthew Osivwemu) found his passion for music and performing, having moved there when he was twelve years-old to live with his older brother Anthony. His brother also being an artist, became his music mentor and helped guide him. He would go on to win multiple talent shows throughout middle school and high school, which gave him further confidence to continue to hone his craft. Being heavily influenced by 90’s and early 2000’s hip hop and R&B, Osivwemu was inspired by artists like Mac Dre, 2pac, & Snoop Dogg in which influences can be seen in his storytelling, lyrical skills, and versatility. He graduated from Napa High with a full ride academic scholarship to Sacramento State and it was during his 2013 to 2017 attendance there that Oke would record and release numerous projects and music videos. His music was creating waves throughout California catching the attention of Too $hort, Mistah FAB, Sway Calloway, and even Superbowl Champion Marshawn Lynch. With over 2 million streams across multiple platforms, Oke has a growing fanbase and is prepping the release of his debut album that’s due later this year.
