Yeah Yeah Yeahs wrapped up their US tour to a raucous solid-out crowd at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA Saturday night. The band made their triumphant return to the Bay Area, starting off the set with “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” from their latest album, ‘Cool It Down’ and bringing out opener Perfume Genius, who himself put on a captivating opening set. As the band mixed in the band’s classics with the new material like “Burning” and “Love Bomb” from the new LP, they also got the crowd going with “Pin” and “Cheated Hearts”. Midway through the set, lead singer Karen O made a quick costume change and mentioned she was wearing the same exact jacket that she wore in the music video for “Zero”, which they filmed in Chinatown of nearby San Francisco. She also wished everyone a Happy Pride and referenced another local connection in that the the first Karen O drag show took place also in nearby San Francisco. The end of their set was filled with their most well-known songs in “Gold Lion”, “Maps” and “Heads Will Roll”, which got the crowd dancing and jumping. With an encore that started off with “Poor Song” it wasn’t long until fans were back up on their feet, jumping and dancing to the classics in “Y Control” and “Date With The Night” from the band’s landmark album, ‘Fever to Tell’.
