VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Good Kid Takes Advantage of Fortnite Placement, Balancing Tech and Music Career During Success

Canadian indie-rock band Good Kid, consisting of Nick Frost (lead vocals), Michael Kozakov (bass), David Wood (guitar), Jacob Tsafatinos (guitar), and Jon Kereliuk (drummer), rose to fame from within the Fortnite community after several of their songs would often play on the platform. Once the band grew notice of this popularity, they partnered with the platform to include songs such as “Witches” from their debut album Good Kid (2018). The band’s discography is full of upbeat, guitar heavy tracks and similar tempos that bleed into one another to create a cohesive outline much like the early 2000s artist they’re influenced by. Highlighted by their young and relatable lyricism on drifting relationships on the track “Nomu” and the mythological-inspired track “Atlas.” Good Kid recently released their fourth studio album, Good Kid 4, featuring six tracks compact with their signature sound. “When we got into Fortnite that was that moment for us where we were like wow, we’re actually in the ethos of video game music in a really cool way,” guitarist David Wood says. The band is currently on tour for the release of Good Kid 4.

David Wood of Good Kid talked with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the band’s latest EP, Good Kid 4, the experience of meeting fans, balancing work in tech and music, and more.
