Djo brought his Back On You World Tour to Boston, Massachusetts for a particularly meaningful stop—his hometown show. While many associate him with Chicago, he’s originally from Newburyport, MA, adding an extra layer of sentiment to the night. The crowd at Roadrunner was buzzing with anticipation, and the atmosphere didn’t disappoint.
Opening the evening was Djo’s former band, Post Animal, who immediately set the tone with an energetic set that had the audience dancing and singing along. For those unfamiliar with the group, it was a memorable introduction. Then came a surprise that sent the crowd into a frenzy—Djo joined Post Animal onstage for their final two songs, reuniting with his old bandmates in a moment that felt both nostalgic and electric.
Djo kicked off his set with “Runner” and “Gloom” from his 2022 album Decide, before launching into “Link,” a standout track from his latest release, The Crux. While his viral hit “End of Beginning” drew massive cheers, longtime fans were especially thrilled to hear deep cuts from all three of his albums—Twenty Twenty, Decide, and The Crux. He initially closed with “Potion,” leaving the crowd in awe, but chants for an encore quickly brought him back for two more songs, including “Back On You,” a heartfelt tribute to the people who’ve supported him throughout his journey.
Adding to the emotional weight of the night, two fans led a thoughtful project by handing out 200 signs that read “You can count on us”—a meaningful nod to the lyric “You can count on me” from “Back On You.” Djo was visibly touched, taking in the moment with gratitude.
For the true finale, he performed “Flash Mountain,” the energetic closer from Twenty Twenty. Joined once again by his friends from Post Animal, they danced across the stage together, ending the show on a joyful, unforgettable high.
