Indie artist Charlotte MacInness is poised to make a profound impact with her latest project, ‘High Water,’ a deeply introspective collection resonating with the current zeitgeist. An intimate interview offered a crucial glimpse into the creative currents driving this highly anticipated release, revealing the depth of her musical vision.
“With ‘High Water,’ I truly wanted to explore the quiet power of vulnerability, how personal and environmental shifts often mirror each other in unexpected ways, creating a sense of both fragility and immense strength.”
Charlotte MacInnes has long balanced her music ambitions with a career in acting. She gained widespread attention for her role in the Netflix hit ‘North Shore’ and delivered a standout performance as Daisy Buchanan in Florence Welch’s theatrical production of ‘Gatsby’. Throughout this time, she continued writing songs, drawing inspiration from artists like Florence and the Machine, Joni Mitchell, and Kate Bush. Her debut project, the EP ‘Highwater’ features the new single “Beast,” along with previous releases “Struck”and the synth-driven “Celestial.” MacInnes shared, “it’s a lot about that idea actually of like the the transformation from love to hate whether that’s love of a career or an idea or something and how quickly you can transform into something that you didn’t recognize.” Written in collaboration with Ashnikko, Joe Janiak, and Amanda Ghost, and produced by Coffee and Zhone, the tracks move between hope and intensity with soaring vocals. MacInnes describes the project as an empowering catharsis she hopes connects with listeners.
Charlotte MacInness spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about her love of magic and magicians Penn & Teller. She talks about the life experiences that inspired her debut EP ‘Highwater’, how she manages aspirations in acting and music and more.
