De’Wayne released his highly-anticipated third studio album ‘june’ earlier this year and garnered much critical praise. Calling it his “epic rock love album”, De’Wayne has channeled his evolution as an artist over the years into a more confident artist whose becoming more comfortable with the music on the album, as he stated, “I wanted to reframe vulnerability as a superpower, not a weakness, and use this record to show my evolution—not just as an artist, but as a human being. I believe this will stand as one of the most powerful rock albums of the year!”
‘june’ contains themes of love and connection as well as self-analysis and family relationships. The latter is prominently explored in the song “sundays” that De’Wayne explained is about his umultuous albeit strong relationship with his father. “When I wrote this song, I wanted to explain the complicated bond between a father and son. One where love and pain, admiration, and resentment all live side by side. It’s about seeing your father as both a hero and a human, flawed and real. In the end, it’s my way of saying; ‘Thank you, Dad—for the good and the bad. You helped make me who I am,’” De’Wayne stated.
The Houston-born and Los Angeles-based artist recently toured with Duckworth and will be joining mgk and Wiz Khalifa on tour in 2026.
De’Wayne spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the process of making his latest album ‘June’ and how he’s grown as an artist. He talks about the influence of Hayley Williams and Paramore, working with Lenny Kravitz, and more.
