Mallrat gave a stellar performance at Austin City Limits weekend one as she had the crowd dancing along with her groovy tunes. The Australian artist, born Grace Shaw, is currently on tour with Marina supporting her latest album, ‘Light Hit My Face Like a Straight Right’ that was released early this year, which shows her growth in creating intriguing soundscapes and insightful lyricism. Exploring topics on how light can affect life’s twists and turns, Shaw stated, “I love the idea you can let your fate be decided by rays of light,” she shares. A street lamp lighting a path on rain-soaked pavement, or sunshine hitting your face through an open window; or, more metaphysically, the imperceptible glow radiating from a person you were destined to meet. “There’s something holy about those moments, you know, like the angelic choir in cartoons or whatever,” Mallrat says. “It’s the unexpectedness of it, the suddenness.”
Mallrat spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing at Austin City Limits 2025, the experiences of touring with Kylie Minogue and Marina, her new album and more.
