Emerging artist, Sydney Rose opened the main stage at Austin City Limits this year and amidst warm temps each weekend, putting on an impressive performance. Originally from Georgia and now based in Nashville, Rose has been building momentum this year, having performed at BST Hyde Park and multiple headlining shows earlier this year.
The singer-songwriter went viral with the song “We Hug Now” earlier this year, which has garnered over 100+ million streams. The song has not only re-energized her love of music, but was created after she was dropped from her record label in 2024. She shared on Instagram, “I got dropped from my label on the same day I saw Chappel Roan in Franklin (which I think is very poetic) and I didn’t really know what music was going to look like for me going forward. I wrote ‘We Hug Now’ with really no plan of it being anything special,” she shared, “I wasn’t expecting so many people to resonate with the song. It feels so nice to not feel alone. thank you so much for listening and sharing my music.”
Rose started making music during the pandemic in 2020 while in high school, posting covers on YouTube after picking up the guitar and writing songs. She shared, “I think for me, it’s like, I didn’t even know that I could write songs until quarantine. I was like, ‘Oh, I can just do this?’ It was so freeing.” Now after releasing her EP, ‘I Know What I Want’ earlier this year, Rose continues to tour internationally and has plans to formulate more new music in the future.
Sydney Rose spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar at Austin City Limits 2025 about performing at the festival, how she started creating her own music after just a few guitar lessons and more.
