PHOTO REVIEW: Boys Like Girls Bring a Special Homecoming to Boston for The Soundtrack of Your Summer Fest 8/29/26

Boys Like Girls made a special appearance in Boston, MA for The Soundtrack of Your Summer Fest, a one-night-only hometown celebration of the band’s early albums and the music that helped define the pop-punk era.

Hosted by Boys Like Girls on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Leader Bank Pavilion, the show featured Boys Like Girls (2006) and Love Drunk (2009) performed in their entirety. They were joined by early-2000s pop-punk favorites Hit the Lights, Cute Is What We Aim For, and Cartel, making the night feel like a trip back in time.

The hometown show came shortly after the band wrapped their The Soundtrack of Your Life Tour, which took them across the U.S. and U.K. from March through July. Returning to Massachusetts made this night feel especially personal, celebrating not only their music but the fans who have continued to show up throughout the years.

During the show, frontman Martin Johnson shared that he rode his bike to clear his head before the performance, passing by the old dance studio where the band once lived and slept on air mattresses. He recalled being bummed to see the building had since been torn down and replaced with condos, but the memories remained. Moments like this gave longtime fans a glimpse into the band’s early days.

With Leader Bank Pavilion overlooking the Boston waterfront, fans watched the sun set while singing along to the songs they grew up with. From opening with “Heart Heart Heartbreak”, to “Love Drunk,” “Thunder,”and, of course, “The Great Escape.” For a band that started right here in Massachusetts, The Soundtrack of Your Summer Fest was more than just another show, it was a homecoming and a celebration of the music that has stayed with fans for more than two decades.

Ending the last weekend of August, which for many essentially marks the end of summer, with the music we grew up listening to, a Boston sunset, and Boys Like Girls on the waterfront was about as perfect as it gets.
