Post-hardcore legends Dance Gavin Dance returned to Dallas this past weekend, selling out the staple venue, South Side Ballroom. With the fans wrapping around to the parking lot, the excitement of what was to come was almost as radiant as the scorching Texas sun.
The night kicked off with Sacramento natives, Dwellings, taking the stage. The groovy bass slaps and energetic stage presence were enough to get the crowd’s blood pumping. Belmont, Chicago-based “bouncy pop punk” band’s energy was enough to get anyone off their feet. Whether it was the catchy lyrics, unclean vocals, or hot trap beats, the crowd awake and ready to start a mosh pit.
The Home Team, straight from Seattle, showed everyone what it was like to bust a move. The soulful vocals of Brian Butcher, combined with hypnotic guitars and dancy beats, made it impossible to stand still. The crowd was more than warmed up for the moment they were all waiting for.
One by one, each member of Dance Gavin Dance took the stage with the crowd’s roar growing louder and louder. Dressed in matching tracksuits, the band was ready to deliver a memorable night. With new vocalist, Andrew Wells, the band delivered a perfect mix of new songs from their upcoming album Pantheon, and old school Dance Gavin Dance songs only the OG fans would know. The atmosphere was electric, fans old and young were singing word for word, enjoying every moment.
After making some changes to the band late last year, the band’s return, alongside new music and new members to the band, showed every person in that room that Dance Gavin Dance was here to stay.
