VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Ari Abdul Shares Encounter With Ghosts, Talks International Reception

The old adage of “timing is everything” certainly applies to emerging artist Ari Abdul, who has had a fast-rising start to her career after her debut single “BABYDOLL” went viral in 2022. The song in its various forms, sped-up, slowed-down, etc. has garnered over 800 million global streams and enabled the Brooklyn native to tour the world, most recently opening for Nessa Barrett.

Getting into music after a chance meeting with producer/songwriter Thomas LaRosa, Abdul’s brand of dark alt-pop has resonated with millions of fans as well as her peers. She most recently collaborated with Beach Weather for a feature on the band’s single “Hardcore Romance”, as well as on “Red Velvet” with Jutes. Her latest single “Dreams” was released just a few weeks ago and is a lighter and more playful tune as opposed to the moodier ballads she’s known for, as she shared, “it’s about someone chasing after the idea of you rather than really wanting to get to know the person inside, and kind of rejecting them for it.” With plans to release more new music later this year, as well as more tour dates, Abdul is poised to take the next step in her burgeoning career.

Ari Abdul spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about her encounter with ghosts during her U.S. tour with Nessa Barrett, the overwhelming positive reception from international crowds, new music and more.
