With last year’s release of their third studio album, ‘Enough Of The Sweet Talk’ Australian band Lime Cordiale return with their first individual project in four years and after their 2022 collaboration with Idris Elba on the EP ‘Cord Elba’. The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart immediately on August 5, 2024, and also was the first-ever recipient of the ARIA Australian #1 Award, which recognizes the country’s top-selling homegrown artists.
Comprised of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, Lime Cordiale took a different approach on the album by creating songs that take the listener “through the course of a relationship in chronological order. The innocent early days, the learning, the love, the doubt, the conflict and the realisation of loss,” as shared with Rolling Stone Australia. “At first we envisioned our next album like a French menu—complete with entrees, mains, and desserts, every song referencing food or drink,” Louis shared. Oli stated, “the album came together in different weird parts of the world, even down to Louis cutting the collage in the back of the tour bus, so we wanted to honour that impact.” Featuring well-received songs like “Cold Treatment,” “Pedestal” and “Imposter Syndrome” ‘Enough Of The Sweet Talk’ also contains a feature by Colin Hay of Men at Work fame on “Colin”. Of the collaboration, the brothers shared that their pairing was an organic process having met at a party and being invited to his house in Los Angeles, “someone described our music to him and but we were new and he’s just friendly,” Oli shared, “he’s got a studio there and and we recorded that part of ‘Colin’ at his house and I was like “Do you warm up beforehand?” He goes “I do sometimes but I didn’t today.” And then he sat down and sung that bit and Louis and I were sitting behind him just going “Oh man.” Lime Cordiale will be back touring the U.S. supporting Tash Sultana kicking off in June.
Lime Cordiale spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the release of emotions that songwriting enables them as brothers and as Australians, which would otherwise be left unspoken. They talk about Oli’s recent nuptials, Louis’ confidence as a singer in the band, their latest album ‘Enough of the Sweet Talk’ and more.
