VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Matthew Ifield Shares How Dijon Inspired Approach New Song “Thinking” And Upcoming New Music

Matthew Ifield returns in 2026 with his latest single, ‘Thinking.’ The song embodies a new approach to songwriting and inspiration from Dijon, who Ifield shared his admiration for.

“My musical vision for ‘Thinking’ was always about exploring the quiet spaces within ourselves, finding beauty in the introspection and the subtle shifts of thought.”

In just a short period of time, Australian singer-songwriter Matthew Ifield has been able to build a career in music based upon his huge internet fanbase and into a global touring force. He initially got his start by uploading covers from his bedroom, where his remarkably mature, soul-baring vocals instantly struck a chord. The immediate reception online was massive, rapidly translating into over 250 million streams and a dedicated social media following that now includes millions of fans across Instagram and TikTok. He released his debut album, ‘My Favourite Place To Be’ last year, which took him on extensive tours through North America, India, and Southeast Asia. With the release of his new single, “Thinking”, Ifield took inspiration from Dijon, who he’s long admired. “I love Dijon. I think his music—especially the way he constructs his songs and how raw the production is—was a huge inspiration for ‘Thinking.’ He doesn’t care about making things sound perfect or clean; it’s all about the texture, the feeling, and letting the imperfections stay in. That really changed how I wanted to approach my own music and production going forward,” Ifield shared.

Matthew Ifield spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about his latest single “Thinking” and how Dijon inspired him. He talks about how spending time in the US has given him a new perspective on life and more.
