Australian quartet The Belair Lip Bombs released their sophomore album, ‘Again’, late last year to much anticipation via Third Man Records. The new material has been well-received by fans as it showcases a refined artistic vision that builds upon their established indie roots while venturing into new sonic territories.
“This time we know ourselves a bit more. Our sound’s more defined… we’re just much more intentional in the studio.”
The Belair Lip Bombs didn’t take too much time off to craft the follow-up to their critically-lauded debut ‘Lush Life’. The album was recorded over a four to five month period while the band was on tour. Despite the juggling of schedules, the band comprised of Maisie Everett (vocals), Mike Bradvica, Jimmy Droughton, and Daniel “Dev” Devlin were able to devote time for more writing, more fine-tuning, and more attention to detail at every stage. With catchy tunes like “Hey You” and “Back of My Hand”, the band really hits their stride with the album as a whole. In spekaing about the altter, Everett shared, “Writing the lyrics was an up-and-down process. I wrote the second verse first, the night I got home from the rehearsal where we wrote the song. I got a bit stoned and laid in bed with a notepad and a pen and the lyrics and the melody kinda just poured out of me, which pretty much never happens, so I guess it was a fluke.”
The Belair Lip Bombs spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the challenges of evolving their sound, the inspiration behind specific lyrical themes, the collaborative process, and more.
