VIDEO: INTERVIEW – VILLANELLE Talk Performing at Bonnaroo 2026, Experiencing New York Knicks Mania

VILLANELLE are part of a new generation of UK rock bands breathing fresh life into rock music. Blending grunge, shoegaze, and alternative rock influences, the London trio have quickly earned a reputation for their high-energy performances and sharp songwriting.

“it’s going to be more akin to those sort of more heavier ambient tunes versus some of the songs we had earlier on”

Fronted by Gene Gallagher alongside guitarist Ben Taylor and bassist Jack Schiavo, VILLANELLE formed in 2023 after finding common musical bonds and their penchant for 90s American and English alt-rock, as well as traditional classic rock roots that they honed and enabled them to make an impact on the live circuit. Their growing profile has seen them support Miles Kane and perform on Liam Gallagher’s Definitely Maybe tour, that gave them the confidence to pour their energy and soul into what would ultimately be their debut EP, Measly Means. The EP was released in May and showcases a blend of driving riffs, melodic hooks, and atmospheric textures across five tracks. Standout tracks “Measly Means,” “Hinge,” and “Placebo,” made an immediate impression and afforded a growing audience internationally.

VILLANELLE spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar at Bonnaroo 2026 to chat about performing at the festival, impressions of America, growing in their sound and more.
