LISTEN: New Music Roundup 7/23 – Top 10 Tracks

With so much new music coming out every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to first. Every week, we highlight some of our favorite tracks to kick off your weekend. The best way to keep up with our selections is by following our ‘New Music On-Repeat’ playlist on Spotify. This week’s picks include tracks from TOPS, GRiZ, The Linda Lindas, and more!

1. The Linda Lindas – ‘Oh!”

The Linda Lindas - "Oh!"

Riot Girl revivalists The Linda Lindas are a truly esxtraordinary band. The youngest member of the band is 10 year old Mila, and the oldest member, Bela, is still merely 16. You may have heard their viral hits “Rebel Girl” or “Racist, Sexist Boy”, but this new single shows that The Linda Lindas’ success was not just a one-off. This song is pure Riot Girl punk, and the young ethos of the band combined with their unapologetic persona makes them not only the coolest rising stars, but also the most endearing.

2. Slush Puppy – “EAT SPIT!” ft. Royal & the Serpent

Slush Puppy - EAT SPIT! (feat. Royal & the Serpent) (Pseudo Video)

We fell in love with Royal & the Serpent after hearing her frenzied yet relatable song “Overwhelmed”. Now, she’s teamed up with San Diego alt-rocker Slush Puppy to create this new track that is packed with energy. “EAT SPIT!” is filthy in the best way, sonically and lyrically. Heavy industrial synths add a hyperpop flair a la 100 Gecs, as Slush Puppy and Royal & the Serpent roar over the crashing chorus.

3. Rowan – “One of These Days”

Rowan // One Of These Days (Official Video)

This is one of our favorite tracks from the Irish trio’s EP ‘Everybody Talks’, which was just released today. It’s a song about wanting revenge after a relationship ends, with Dylan Howe singing, “One of these days I’ll get her back, one of these days I’ll smile”. It’s a revelatory indie rock track that feels reminiscent of The Strokes’ first record, without being too referential.

4. Eliza & the Delusionals – “Save Me”

Eliza & The Delusionals - Save Me (Official Lyric Video)

Brisbane indie-rockers Eliza & the Delusionals are treating us to a glossy new single. “Save Me” is filled with 80s nostalgia, yet still feels progressive. They capture the slow-dance-by-the-disco-ball ethos of some of our favorite 80s movies, while still feeling listenable. That vignette lies just beneath the surface but adds a uniquely cinematic element to the song. We can’t wait to hear more new material from these guys!

5. Porsh Bet$ – “Whatever”

Porsh Bet$ - Whatever (I Used To Think Forever Short Film: Part 1)(Official Video)

Harlem native Porsh Bet$ has proved that he can write fantastic, sweet-yet-trippy love songs with his past two singles. This new song “Whatever” feels effortless and breezy like a warm summer day. This is the kind of song that reminds you of the simple joy of being in love.

6. TOPS – “Party Again”

TOPS - Party Again (Official Audio)

To celebrate their upcoming tour, Canadian indie rock band TOPS has released a bouncy new song that instantly hits you with feel-good energy. “Party Again” is wonderful. It’s atmospheric yet still draws you in, classic yet fresh, and filled with life. I’m obsessed with this track.

7. Pink Laces – “Paradigm”

Pink Laces is the alter-ego of 20 year old synth-pop artist Elijah Hendrix Wahlberg. This new song “Paradigm” is a luminous display of his talent, wavering between grand atmosphere and intimate instrumentation. This is the latest single off his forthcoming debut ‘Disclosures’, and is really amplifying our excitement for its release.

8. GRiZ – “Burn Up The Floor” ft. Jansten

Burn Up the Floor - GRiZ x Jantsen (Official Video)

DJ, producer, and songwriter GRiZ just released his seventh studio album ‘Rainbow Brain’ today. This whole album really takes us back to the golden age of dubstep when producers like Skrillex reigned supreme over every club and festival. GRiZ carries on the legacy of that era with striking precision, heavy hitting beats, and unstoppable energy. This track “Burn Up The Floor” is a perfect example of his talent.

9. Marco Luka – “get me high”

Marco Luka - get me high (Official Audio)

Cuban-American artist Marco Luka gives us a heartbreaking trap-tinged ballad on “get me high”. This song has a lot of trap production elements, but Luka takes an interesting turn, letting the song exist as a piano ballad by avoiding the drop we expect. It’s a heartfelt song talking about someone who hurts you time and time again, yet you can’t seem to keep yourself away from them.

10. Aldn – “dog eat dog” ft. renforshort

aldn, renforshort - dog eat dog (official music video)

Aldn is an artist you need to keep on your radar if you love the hyperpop or glitch-pop movement. He collaborated with bedroom pop singer/songwriter renforshort to create this stripped back track. The song comes off his brand new debut EP ‘greenhouse’ which shows the different sonic realms he can dive into.
