VIDEO INTERVIEW: half alive Say “Creature” Going Viral Was A Surprise And Inspired Them, Talk New Album

From Long Beach, California, half alive, consisting of Josh Taylor (vocals), Bret Kramer (drums), and J. Tyler Johnson (bass), released their sophomore album Conditions of a Punk on December 2, 2022 under RCA Records. Since their first EP in 2017, the band has achieved widespread success, garnering a worldwide following and over two million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their debut album, Now, Not Yet, announced their punk-rock presence to the world and topped alternative/rock charts. However, the trio changed their musical ways with Conditions of a Punk, choosing to use eighteen track collection to talk about love, heartbreak, and healing. Taylor notes that, “the first record was way more of the head, this one’s way more of the heart. It’s like the first time that we were allowing ourselves to talk about love in this way and so, it’s much more intimate in nature.” Each song delves into the themes of loss, losing one’s identity, and of course, what it means to be a punk. Starting in February of 2023, half alive is going on tour in Europe and North America, ready to share their music with those who are ready to rock out.

half alive spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar on their new album and going viral.
