VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Moody Joody Interview at Austin City Limits 2025

Performing at Austin City Limits for the first time, Moody Joody had the crowd at the BMI Stage dancing and vibing along. The trio from Nashville consisting of lead singers Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall and producer, Andrew Pacheco performed a mix of their synth-driven polished alt-pop that has garnered praise and a growing fanbase.

Formed in 2020, Forbes and Hall joined forces after pursuing solo careers prior and brought in Pacheco, who had previously worked with Hall. Their debut EP Dream Girl was released in November 2024 and highlights the trio’s penchant for introspective, vulnerable lyricism through radiant, danceable melodies. Highlighted by tracks like “Velvet Connection” and “The Heat”, Moody Joody projects a sound that’s mature and developed and has them already prepped for an upcoming full-length. “We’re definitely entering a new phase, new era,” Forbes shared, “I feel like ‘Dream Girl’ was very feminine and soft and this next phase, there’s some cheekiness. There’s some energy. We get really vulnerable in the lyrics.”

Sassy. I mean, it’s our band name is Moody Judy. So moody is a big uh part of that and we own that and we embrace that and that comes out in our music. We want to just celebrate all the sides of being a woman. And then just also like if we want to write a fun pop song, we’re going to do that. If we want to write about seasonal depression, we’re going to do that. And we want to showcase like a very versatile just like our personality as a band too through our songs. Yeah. We don’t ever want to like put ourselves in a box of this one thing we have to be. So yeah, there was one song that I I caught a clip of and you’re singing about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. So I feel like that’s kind of like informed by the live performance in terms of your sassiness in in the lyrical content.

Moody Joody spoke with B-Side host Pete Mar at Austin City Limits 2025 about performing at the festival, their formation, channeling their affinity for indie music into their own and more.
