Indie-rock outfit Sunday (1994) continue to garner attention with their cinematic soundscapes, moody aesthetics, and nostalgic guitar-driven energy. The band’s song “Blonde” was recently featured in a key scene of the Netflix show “Crew Girl” while the band has performed numerous sold-out shows since the release of their debut self-titled EP in 2024.
“It gets to a point where we were like, ‘Fuck it, let’s just do exactly what feels authentic to who we are.
Formed by seasoned musicians drawing from previous projects to create a fresh artistic lane, Sunday (1994) has successfully re-interpreted the atmospheric warmth of 80s soundtracks and DIY grit into a unique sound and presentation. Writing and recording out of their one-bedroom apartment, bandmates and partners, Paige Turner and Lee Newell met 10 years ago and established a solid foundation based upon their similar perspectives on life and music. “I had stumbled around aimlessly for many years, but I wasn’t born until we’d met,” stated Newell. Channeling their affinity for movies, the duo stylized their band name ‘Sunday (1994)’ resemble a film title. As they like to say, “Our biopic would be Dumb and Dumber directed by Federico Fellini.” The name is also a nod to Turner’s Italian heritage and her cherished Sunday evening family gatherings, where the food was plentiful and the music very loud.
Sunday (1994) speak with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing at Austin City Limits 2026, experiencing growing recognition after many years with other projects, their upcoming debut album and more.
