NYC-based electro-pop·electroclash duo MGNA Crrrta are currently riding a wave of critical acclaim with their latest mixtape, ‘Beautiful Disaster.’ Fresh off their recent headlining tour, the pair of best friends continue to garner attention from both the music and fashion world.
“We were just like bored and we were like, ‘What if we just like made a song?'”
The genesis of MGNA Crrrta is uniquely modern, tracing back to a chance meeting on a Minecraft server when Farheen Khan and Ginger Scott were just eleven-years-old. Their bond, initially forged through online interactions blossomed into a real-world friendship culminating in a move to New York when Khan was eighteen. Musically, the duo’s collaboration began organically during college, evolving from casual experimentation into a serious creative outlet. “We were just like bored and we were like, ‘What if we just like made a song?’,” Scott explained, “and then it was messing around and then we just made an EP… it just was very natural. We never were like, ‘Oh we want to be musicians or do this.’ We were just bored. It was never like, ‘this is my mission.'” Their latest project, ‘Beautiful Disaster,’ features the singles like “4me?” and “BFF” and demonstrates their growth as artists, as noted by the positive reception and critical attention.
MGNA Crrrta spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about their unique Minecraft origin story, the inspiration behind their ‘Beautiful Disaster’ mixtape, their affinity for San Francisco, and more.
